This week’s smoke from Canada’s wildfires made majestic skylines all but invisible as far south as Philadelphia, PA and threatened the World Cup final in New Jersey. Mississauga’s Toronto Golf Club saw two-time Taiwan National Champion, Lin Jie-en, catch fire during the weather-delayed final round and smoke most of the field in solidifying her standing as one of the world’s very best golfers.
At the tender age of 15, Jie-en is the youngest of a group of friends and on-course rivals affectionately becoming know as golf’s version of Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short in “¡Three Amigos!,” i.e. reigning and defending NCAA Champion Stanford University Cardinal, Anna Song, Canada’s fastest rising emerging star, Aphrodite Deng, and two-time Taiwan National Champion, Lin Jie-en, the latter who was the youngest golfer in the field at the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, CA (https://tinyurl.com/Jie-EnYoungestAt2026USOpen).
Spurred by the hospitality of Jie-en’s local hosts, McKinsey & Company Chairman Emeritus, Bruce Simpson, and his lovely wife, Tracy, and cheered on by Toronto Golf Club Member, David Cottingham, all three ladies made the cut and finished strong. Two of the ladies, Jie-en and Aphrodite, are headed to the world’s most prestigious amateur championship, the 2026 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, being contested at The Honors Course in, Ooltewah, TN just outside of Chattanooga, TN. “The Three Amigos” will have to ride again another day – and they most certainly will, indeed, atop top amateur event and LPGA Tour tournament leaderboard after leaderboard in the years to come.
