MARSHALL, MI • THE MEDALIST GOLF CLUB — June 13, 2026 — Strivers Row Media  — Still basking in the glow of her historic position atop the Epson Tour’s Race for the Card standings, Amari Avery used yesterday’s opening round of the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship to give the gallery another demonstration of her deft ball striking.

Avery is in red numbers at 1 under par T34, just 5 back of the lead. She sits a not so comfortable 170.607 points ahead of her closest challenger for season ending Race for the Card supremacy in fellow American, Mariel Galdiano. In what could be a USC Trojans vs. UCLA Bruins brouhaha for the top spot, the fellow Curtis Cup winners are giving fans all of the drama big time professional sports is meant to give.

At just 13 years old, Galdiano was the youngest golfer in the field at the 2011 U.S. Women’s Open. Another future star bringin’ the heat at the FireKeepers Championship was the youngest golfer in the field at last week’s U.S. Women’s Open, 2-time Taiwan National Champion, Lin Jie-en (林潔恩). Jie-en sits at 2 under par T20 for the Championship, just 4 back of the lead. “I’ve been a huge fan of Amari Avery’s ever since I started playing golf. I think every kid has seen and been inspired by how great Amari was in ‘The Short Game'” said the young starlet, referring to the Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel produced award winning documentary in which Amari starred and which took the golf world by storm (see: https://tinyurl.com/AmariAlonaAveryTheShortGame)

In what will no doubt be a red hot weekend of high stakes drama and sensational play, Avery and Lin both hope to be in the final pairing and hope to force a playoff on Sunday, ALMOST as much as the basketball world hopes to hear the most coveted two words in all of sports in connection with the historic New York Knicks vs. San Antonio Spurs NBA Finals series, i.e. Game 7!
