Lin Jie-en (林潔恩), the 15-year-old Taiwanese amateur whose 2025 campaign electrified Asian golf, delivered a commanding statement on American soil today, claiming both Low Amateur and Low Scorer honors at Honolulu Country Club in the official qualifier for the 81st U.S. Women’s Open Presented by Ally. Her four-stroke victory punches her ticket to Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, June 4-7, 2026, where she will join the world’s elite at one of golf’s most prestigious championships — America’s National Championship.
When asked between rounds how she would approach the ensuing final round and if there was a particular motivation fueling her ambitions, the youngster, who displays a wisdom that belies her youth, said “I just have to stay focused and visualize myself on the first tee at Riviera,” which evidenced the young starlet’s steely resolve, her confidence, and her appreciation for the gravity of the moment. Part golf prodigy and part golf historian, Ms. Lin added, “I also have to visualize the medal they award for winning today’s qualifier as if it’s a Mickey Wright Medal,” referring to the eponymous medal honoring LPGA Tour great, Kathryn Wright which is presented annually by the USGA to U.S. Women’s Open Champions.
Visualize she must have done. Her second and final round was even more impressive. After opening with back to back birdies, she carded a final round 4 under par 68 with a single blemish to win by a commanding four strokes clear of the field as both a Low Amateur and Low Scorer Double Medalist.
Ms. Lin entered the qualifier having won four important amateur championships in 2025 in her native Asia, i.e. the WPG Ladies Open, the Kenda Tire Cup, the SAMPO Ladies Open, and the Taya Group Ladies Open. “I want to thank my dad who has been so supportive of me and who has taught me so much of what I know,” she said. “Mr. Leland Hardy has been instrumental—he helps me sharpen both my Chinese and my English, and ensures I have country club access to stay match-ready while my father and I are stateside.,” she continued.
Determined to use her golf travels to expand her worldview and forge lasting friendships inside and outside the sport, the wide-eyed phenom—still too young to drive—has assembled a peripatetic itinerary for her stateside visit this year. The journey begins, naturally, at the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.
From there, Lin Jie-en heads to just outside of Richmond, VA where The Golf Club at Foster’s Farm (www.FostersFarm.com), which boasts Michael Jordan and Vista Equity Partners Founder Robert Smith as Founding Members, is nearing completion. Then its up I-95 to America’s birthplace, Philadelphia, PA, for a guided tour with PGA publishing executive Rick Summers of the newly refurbished Cobbs Creek Golf Links—the storied course where Presidential Medal of Freedom honoree Charlie Sifford honed his game, and is now home to the newest Tiger Woods Learning Center. A return visit to the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park in Atlanta follows, where she hopes to meet with Ambassador Andrew Young, Jr.
A lover of fashion who was a bit too preoccupied in Honolulu to attend this past Monday’s Met Gala, Ms. Lin will then head north to meet a schoolmate of Academy Award-winning actor Michael B. Jordan: fashion designer Tamil Robinson, founder of haute couture fashion house AMIAT—All Moods In All Textiles—who has promised her a custom-designed outfit in recognition of her exceptional 2025 season.
Before heading home, she’ll travel to West Palm Beach, Florida to visit two of her most devoted supporters, avid golf patrons Clark and Susan Schubach, who have followed her closely since her ascent to the upper echelon of amateur golf.
Destiny may await as the Taiwanese star punches her ticket to Riviera and bashes her way into America’s 250th birthday bash in fine form, indeed.
